An Australian Girl in Paris – Cristina Re Designs

Posted on by Cristina Re

Paris is my favourite city and is the destination for my greatest inspiration when it comes to my work. I travel there regularly to visit the Maison et Object homewares show and stay in touch with the latest fashion and homeware trends.

When it comes to fashion and design, what I love most is the way Parisians express their unique creative style - effortlessly chic, the women of Paris have a unique fashion sense and confidence that is alluring and inspiring. Simplicity mixed with a dash of extravagance when it comes to accessorizing, they are also not afraid to wear colour. Bold blues and raging reds are on trend, and I was happy to see that pink hues are always on trend and forever timeless regardless of the season (not to mention the classic leopard prints). Everything is accentuated with an abundance of glittering golds.

I chose to stay at Hotel Dress code this time around, a trendy new hotel in the heart of the 9th arrondissement, the fashion district of Paris. A boutique hotel with a fashion theme designed by Stéphanie Coutas. It seemed very fitting to stay there given my love of style and design. It was only natural that I made time to shop at Galeries Fayette just across the road, the most beautiful store in the world known for its display of the latest fashion contained within a stunning stained glass and steel dome interior. The architecture style of the store is Art Nouveau, popular in the early 1900’s when it was built.

Even though I’ve been to Paris many times, I always make time to visit the Musée d’Orsay to see the Impressionists paintings and appreciate the use of light, colour and texture in their paintings. My favourites are Monet’s sunsets and the Degas' Dancers series of works.

To top things off, I just love to have a lychee infused cup of tea at the Mariage Frères tea house and savour a rose flavoured macaron (or two!) in Laduree, the trendy precinct of St Germaine.
